Vehicles Under Restoration
1960 Land-Rover Short Safari Station Wagon

This machine is an unusually fine example of a rust-free early Land-Rover which has been restored sympathetically and to a high standard. Kept to the original specification, this Land-Rover retains its 2 ¼-litre petrol engine, complete with all peripherals and ancilliaries. This vehicle also retains its original and entirely wonderful Lucas electrical system, its original positive-earth polarity, its original SOLEX carburetter, its original radiator (now fully restored), original fuel tank (also restored) , and it has been treated to a factory-correct SMITHS heater and defroster. The originality and correctness of this vehicle is remarkable to a degree rarely seen today, because it is entirely unmolested, as directed by its recently new owner, only the second in more than fifty years. This superlative machine has been treated to a fresh interior and exterior respray and also been shod in six original factory-specified DUNLOP Traction mileage tyres (sic), made in Great Britain in the original DUNLOP molds, and also features the now-very-rare factory “divided wheels”, or split rims as they are now called.
Much of the interior upholstery was restored using the original factory “Elephant hide” vinyl, identified in the parts manuals as “grey leathercloth”, a vinyl that is nearly indestructible. This is not to be confused with modern “look-alike” vinyl. It is not a reproduction material but the original factory material.
New seat belts were needed for the front seats and period-correct-looking items were specially sourced for our client. They look exactly as though they were taken from a vehicle of this era and the grey nylon webbing is a perfect match for to the grey Elephant hide. They look “factory”!!

Series One - Committed for Client Restoration

This very nice little series I 80-inch Land-Rover was offered only as a restoration project to be completed through Dare Britannia, Ltd. It is in unusually fine original condition with few exceptions, chiefly that the canvas top is not original or correct. Aside from that, this machine is correct and complete in every respect.
